Tracey started her working life in the commercial arms of various public sector organisations in London and Manchester. After leaving Salford City Council as head of marketing and tourism, Tracey worked as a freelance marketing and sponsorship consultant for major sporting events, including the Harlem Globetrotters, the Tour of Britain and the Triathlon World Cup. It was this experience of working away from home, coupled with her tourism background, that prompted Tracey and her business partner, Paul Taylor, (a lawyer turned architect) to set up Staying Cool to plug the gap in the market between boutique hotels and self-catering lets. The Birmingham-based company has grown organically and has just 35 units. Staying Cool at the Rotunda has won two national tourism awards from Visit England – a first for a city centre serviced apartment company and was awarded Birmingham’s first five star rating in 2008.
