According to the Times, the EU relations minister is looking to implement an agreement that will mirror Britain’s 13 existing two-year youth mobility schemes with countries like Japan and Australia, which will see young people from across Europe allowed to move to the UK for more than a year.
The Times reported Britain and the EU had already agreed on the broad parameters of a youth mobility scheme, with plans for a new deal to be signed by both sides next year.
Kate Nicholls, chair of UKHospitality, said: “I urge both parties to pursue a model with maximum flexibility, and mirroring existing schemes with Australia and New Zealand is a sensible approach.”
