The ASAP Annual Conference, Wednesday 29th November 2023

People : Planet : Principles

We are delighted to have secured the newly opened conference space at

etc Venues, 2nd Floor, 155 Bishopsgate, Liverpool St, London EC2M 3YD

What a lot of changes since we last met for an ASAP Annual Conference, back in December 2019!

A global pandemic, war in Europe, the soaring cost of living at home and around the world…

But now we’re back, better than ever, to offer attendees the latest industry data and insights, to discuss challenges and highlight opportunities, all via an exciting programme of keynote speakers, panel discussions, breakouts and seminars based around our three pillars of People, Planet and Principles.

Get ready to be inspired by the 2023 ASAP Annual Conference – People: Planet: Principles.

As we said about the 2023 Awards back in June, this time it’s different… So, join us to engage, discuss and collaborate, with Operator, Agent and Industry Supplier Members, travel buyers and platforms, investors and suppliers, from right across the world.

The general theme of the Conference is one of collaboration, of teamwork, of working together, which makes us all stronger, and of determination.

We start the day with the incredible tale of resilience and determination from Anthony Bennett, who defied near-death to become an inspirational fundraiser for charity. And all round happy person!

Breakout sessions will cover numerous different aspects of professional hospitality life – truly something for everyone. In fact, one registered attendee has already complained of too much choice and not knowing which panels and talks to go to!

Which would you choose? A session on Smarter regulation and the need for Industry Data? Or personal safety (led by the Suzy Lamplugh Trust)? An incredible meeting leading to a great outcome from Jonny Benjamin MBE and Neil Laybourn? An ESG session on how the hospitality industry can pay back for decades of high carbon usage, from Helen Hodgkinson (FCIPD).

Followed by a collaborative session to find solutions for the worst challenges faced right now by the industry.

And it’s all wrapped up by the wonderful Baroness Floella Benjamin – actress, presenter, broadcaster and parliamentarian, as well as charity campigner. We can’t wait for that one!

So join hundreds of fellow delegates from across the serviced apartment and aparthotel sector, our valued industry supplier members and representatives from CHPA, HOSPA, Tourism Alliance, EuRA and VisitEngland, among others..

Our speakers, sessions and presenters ...

Baroness Floella Benjamin OM DBE DL

Floella was made a Baroness in 2010 and is campaigner for children’s rights, the media and diversity. She’s a BAFTA winning actor and presenter, an award winning writer, and a woman who was honoured for her 40 years of charitable work by the then Prince Charles, with a Damehood in 2020.

She has had a long and determined journey from a child arriving in England as part of the Windrush generation, to become the force of nature she is now. She left school at 16 in order to help support her family and entered the world of banking, before bravely auditioning for a national tour of a hit musical. She asked the bank to keep her job open, just in case…

And now, one of the funniest and nicest people you’ll ever meet, with a real ‘happiness’ message of self-belief.

Anthony Bennett

A school trip was heading back from Disneyland Paris in 2006, when there was a problem with the air conditioning on the coach.

80% of students on the trip were affected – but Anthony was left fighting for his life. He was given only a 10% chance of survival after contracting 3 viral infections. He was resuscitated and brought back to life an amazing 12 times, and, as a result, had to relearn everything – how to walk, talk, eat, even breathe – again.

It was the teamwork and dedication of a whole team of healthcare professionals who pulled Anthony through, and gave him the chance to rebuild his life again.

Now a truly inspiring charity fundraiser, Anthony has been officially named one of the happiest people in the UK.

Jonny Benjamin and Neil Laybourn

Throughout his life, Jonny Benjamin struggled with his mental health. In 2008, he made the decision to act on these thoughts, and found himself on Waterloo Bridge in London. But his life was saved through the kindness of a complete stranger who had noticed what was happening, and stepped in to help. Following the #FindMike campaign which went viral, viewed over a million times on social media and catching the attention of celebrities such as Stephen Fry and Boy George, the hero of the day was found to be one Neil Laybourn.

Jonny and Neil are now widely regarded as some of the UK’s most influential mental health campaigners, empowering others to speak out about their battles with mental health, and be there for those around us

Helen Hodgkinson

Most of Helen Hodgkinson’s career has been spent in corporate travel payments. But there came a point in 2019 when she started to question the lack of meaningful content on conference agendas and in meeting rooms, about the impact of the international travel sector on the planet and our environment.

Helen is a co-founder of CACTUS (Climate Action for Corporate Travel Urgent Sustainability), a voluntary industry collaborative group that has come together to address the impact of our industry on the environment.

Helen’s message is in line with the 2023 ASAP Conference, with its driving pillars of People: Planet: Principles, and its theme of collaboration and hope. We’ll only make a difference if we all work together and do every small thing we can, to have maximum impact together.

Suzy Lamplugh Trust

We hope that everyone reading this feels safe both at work and outside work; but ours is an industry where sometimes, by the very nature of hospitality, we find ourselves alone with strangers.

We are delighted to announce that one of our sessions will be led by the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, whose mission is to reduce the risk and prevalence of abuse, aggression, and violence – with a specific focus on stalking and harassment.

You will probably remember the tragic story of the disappearance of 25-year-old Suzy, an estate agent and lone worker who went to meet a client and never returned. The evidence suggests Suzy may have been targeted by a stalker, and the Trust’s National Stalking Helpline has helped over 65,000 victims since its inception in 2010, now working to empower people to avoid, mitigate or manage risks across all aspects of their life.
