Edinburgh Weavers began in the late 1920’s James Morton’s experimental design unit.
The idea behind this new venture was to consciously innovate decorative fabrics suited to contemporary needs, with simplicity and directness as its baseline.
100 years ago, this was a powerful idea. It is still today.
Under James Morton, its creator and technical command, proceeded hand in hand and Morton himself became a champion of, what was then, the leading edge of artistic and technical exploration.
In the 1930’s Edinburgh Weavers passed into the control of Alastair Morton James’ son.
Using the cream of British artists (among them Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson and Paul Nash) he established absolute design supremacy.
Things change but the principles remain.
Today, Edinburgh Weavers follows the philosophy of its founders. Our basic beliefs in design excellence and technical expertise are as vital now as then.
Over the last 40 years Edinburgh Weavers has designed and produced technical fabrics for the four and five star hotel industry. This platform is fashion lead and is the reference point for all interior furnishings.
In order to ensure that the visual aspirations of the company are met Edinburgh Weavers has for the same period of time, provided not only the fabrics, but the full package of measure, make and install, if required.
This encompasses the supply of blinds, hardware (tracks) and a flexible approach to on-site working in a demanding environment. This is at scale and for both new-build and refurbishments.
